The Association of Conference Interpreters (VKD) is a division of the BDÜ, the German Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators.
In the absence of any regulatory authority for the profession [in Germany], VKD is a professional association of conference interpreters who wish to foster professionalism, quality and team spirit in the interpreting profession and who offer their services to the market in accordance with these principles. Members of the association are multilingual communication specialists who ensure seamless communication across language and cultural barriers.
To join VKD, conference interpreters must undergo a rigorous admissions process during which their skills and expertise are thoroughly examined: junior members must provide evidence of their formal (university) training as interpreters whereas experienced members must provide additional evidence of at least 200 assignment days as conference interpreters. The intent is to ensure quality for the client.
